✨What made you decide cosmetology & go to IIC?
Mariah’s decision to attend IIC was the result of a long-held dream. For eight years, tours, applications, and a strong desire to become part of the school community were met with circumstances that prevented enrollment. Eventually, it became clear that a career in food service was not the desired long-term path.
A passion for hair had existed since a young age, making cosmetology a natural choice. Taking that leap of faith opened the door to pursuing a lifelong dream. With the support and encouragement of Mariah’s partner, that dream has become a reality. Today, there is deep gratitude for the opportunity to attend IIC and for the way everything ultimately fell into place. The journey may have taken longer than expected, but the experience has proven to be worth the wait.
✨What advice would you give someone looking into Cosmetology school?
The only thing holding you back is yourself.

✨What made you decide cosmetology & go to IIC?
Sabina has been doing hair since the age of fourteen, whether styling personal hair or helping friends. Many people suggested attending cosmetology school, but the decision was postponed until after working for a few years. The proximity of this school also made it a convenient choice.
✨My Ah Hah moments in school were (times you realized this is what you should be doing)?
One of the biggest “aha” moments during cosmetology school was discovering a talent for blowouts. In the beginning, blowouts were challenging, but through repetition, practice, and determination, the technique became a strength. Another rewarding accomplishment has been successfully completing complex haircuts independently and gaining confidence through those achievements.
✨Where do you see yourself when you finish school?
After graduation, the goal is to work at Salon Nathaniel in Meriden, Connecticut. Following a shadowing experience there a few months ago, plans are in place to reach out after successfully passing the licensing exam this month.
✨What advice would you give someone looking into Cosmetology school?
For anyone considering cosmetology school, the advice is simple: just do it. The program lasts only a year, provides valuable skills and knowledge, and offers tremendous personal and professional growth. The experience is often easier and more rewarding than expected.
