In CT, Cosmetology and Hairdressing are terms used interchangeably. Our cosmetology (hairdressing) program transitions you from a creative, willing learner to a confident, licensed hair professional ready to jump into a career. This program provides technical skills and soft skills training to ensure you don’t just pass your state board test—but that you’ll succeed in this industry.

Cosmetology FAQ’s

Do you offer evening/part time schedule?

IIC’s Cosmetology program has a variety of schedules to help meet the need of the student. For class start dates and schedules please visit: https://www.studyhair.com/programs/cosmetology/

Are there classes in Spanish?

Currently IIC does not provide classes in any other language other than English.

How do I “sign up”?

Get started by applying to IIC at https://www.studyhair.com/admissions/apply-now/ our Admissions coaches will guide you through the rest of the process.

Do we learn braiding?

Yes, part of the Cosmetology curriculum students learn a variety of on and off the scalp braiding techniques. However, specialized braiding with hair additions is not covered.

Will we learn how to make wigs?

Making wigs is not covered in the Cosmetology curriculum, although there are various outside advanced education sites that a student can explore.

Is the schedule flexible?

IIC offers a variety of schedules to help meet the student’s need, however attendance is not flexible. Consistent attendance is necessary to progress through the course properly.

Do you need a high school diploma to enroll?

Because the school is a post secondary institution, a High school diploma or equivalent is necessary to enroll.

Will financial aid cover everything?

Financial Aid is available for those who qualify and amounts depend on a variety of personal information, but don’t’ worry. Our Financial Aid officers will guide you through the process and help determine your eligibility.

Do you take home schooled students?

Home-Schooled students may be eligible for enrollment if they meet state law standards, provide a certificate of completion, and have a 3rd party sign a statement verifying completion of home-schooling. 


Program Objective

The objective of the Cosmetology program is to train students with all aspects of Cosmetology, so they receive the educational foundation needed to successfully pass the state licensing examination and become a successful professional.  IIC uses Pivot Point’s Salon Success program, which helps students prepare for their career.  With a strong technical background along with people skills, graduates of IIC will have all the necessary tools to become successful professionals.

Graduation Requirement

  1. Complete all of the 1500 clock hours
  2. Grade average of at least 75%
  3. Complete all unit and course work requirements
  4. Complete final mock state board exam
  5. Pay tuition and other costs in full as stipulated in the contract

CT Cosmetology Licensing Requirement

  1. Successful completion of a course of not less than 1,500 hours of study in a school approved by the Connecticut State Board for Barbers and Hairdressers or in a school teaching hairdressing, cosmetology or barbering under the supervision of the Connecticut State Board of Education. 
  2. Pass CT Hairdresser State Board Exam
  3. Completed 9th grade or equivalent
  4. File licensure application with CT DPH
